Shellac Flakes
Shellac is a resin secreted by the female lac bug. The dried Shellac flakes are dissolved in methylated spirits to make a varnish.
Shellac Varnish can be used as a varnish for rigid supports, furniture and applied for water-proofing wood cuts and collagraphs. If used as a protective coating for paintings it may yellow or crack over time.
