Art Spectrum Lean Medium
Art Spectrum Lean Medium is a very low odour alternative to the ‘traditional’ Art Spectrum Medium No.1, with similar properties and applications. The difference is that Art Spectrum Odourless Solvent is used in place of Gum Turpentine in this medium, making it ideal for those who are sensitive to the strong turpentine fumes.
Ideally used with Fat Medium in the ‘fat over lean’ sequence. Mix paint and medium thoroughly on the palette before applying to the canvas.
Fat Over Lean: When one layer of oil paint contains an equal amount of oil as the next layer, the top layer will dry while the bottom layer will be deprived of oxygen and remain wet, which will cause wrinkling and cracking. To prevent this problem, use lean first and fat for subsequent layers. This will give an even tension throughout the painting. Lean and fat mediums can be intermixed.
