Whiting Powder
Whiting (Calcium Carbonate) can be used in powder form to polish plates by hand when printing, or can be made into a paste to degrease your plate or stone. Traditionally a paste is made with ammonia however an equally successful and far more environmentally friendly and safer option is to use Soy Sauce in replacement of cloudy ammonia.
In lithography whiting is also used on stones or plates over the drawn image to dry the image slightly before applying the gum arabic.
