Carborundrum Grain Grit

Carborundum is a synthetic abrasive made of carbon and silicone. It is used commonly in lithography to grain lithographic stones in order to expose a grease sensitive surface receptive to lithography pencil, crayon and tusche wash techniques. This is usually achieved by working on the stone with a levigator through various grades of grit from coarse to fine.

Carborundum is also used in Collagraph style printing, where it is often mixed with an acrylic binder to form a paste that can be painted onto the plate. The plates are inked up as an intaglio plate where the grit holds the ink and provides an embossed effect

Graining Grit is available from coarse (60) to extra fine (240) and comes in 1kg packs
