Charbonnel Lithography Inks

The Charbonnel oil-based lithography inks are crafted specifically for the unique demands of lithographic printing, giving you the best possible translation from stone to paper.

We stock all three Charbonnel Black Lithography inks (in 200ml tins):

Black Crayon (Light Black):
The softest of the three. Ideal for delicate tonal work, subtle shading, and prints where you want a lighter, more nuanced quality. Perfect for artists exploring gentle gradations and fine detail.

Black Drawing (Medium Black):
The versatile all-rounder. A balanced, mid-intensity black that works beautifully for detailed illustrative work and expressive mark-making alike. A great starting point if you're new to litho inks.

Black Velvet (Deep Black):
The boldest of the range. Rich, intense, and commanding — Black Velvet delivers maximum depth and drama. Ideal when you want your prints to make a real statement.

Each ink's greasy, oil-based texture is highly resistant to water, which is what makes them such a reliable choice for lithography. Charbonnel inks feature pigments chosen for their low acidity and exceptional lightfastness — quality that has been trusted by printmakers for over 160 years.
