For four centuries, La Papeterie de Lana, situated in Docelles, a short distance from Arches, has continued a papermaking tradition that began in 1950 with hand production.
Today, even with modern manufacturing methods, Lana has conserved its knowledge and produces notable papers on cylinder-mould machines. A rare manufacturer, the company is also skilled in making customized watermarks in line or tone. Lana’s reputation was built on very thin grades and security and packaging papers, but its fine art and bookmaking ranges are of very high quality; all the papers have a neutral pH, and will not yellow with age, characteristics guaranteed by the presence of watermarks or embossings (notable in LANAQUARELL).
Lana acid-free art papers date back 400 years. Keenly aware of the purpose of these design creations, our expert paper makers put all of their expertise and care into producing this magnificent paper tried and tested by artists all over the world. The Lana fine arts papers are suitable for watercolours, oil painting, ink wash and pencils, pastels and fountain pens.
The composition of these Lana fine arts papers varies according to application (watercolours, drawing, engraving). Often in 100% cotton for watercolour painting, they are resistant to wear over time and offer unique thickness, fullness and dimensional stability. The artist can choose from smooth grain (silky to the touch), fine grain (velvety or pronounced) and rough grain.
