Sennelier Abstract Gesso

This white universal gesso primer offers excellent coverage and adhesion, making it an essential preparation for a wide range of painting surfaces. It can be applied to non-oily supports such as canvas, paper, and wood. For raw canvases, a sizing coat is recommended prior to applying the gesso.

The primer can be used straight from the container or diluted with water to achieve the desired consistency (approximately 80–90% gesso with 10–20% water). It may also be tinted by pre-mixing with Sennelier acrylic colours, allowing for customized ground tones.

Sennelier Gesso penetrates the surface effectively, creating a strong, stable base that ensures optimal paint adhesion. It is suitable for numerous painting techniques, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, tempera, egg tempera, casein, and gouache.

For acrylic painting, one coat is sufficient, while two coats are recommended for oil painting. The primer dries rapidly, enabling quick preparation and efficient workflow.
