It is used commonly in lithography to grain lithographic stones in order to expose a grease sensitive surface receptive to lithography pencil, crayon and tusche wash techniques. This is usually achieved by working on the stone with a levigator through various grades of grit from coarse to fine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCarborundum is also used in Collagraph style printing, where it is often mixed with an acrylic binder to form a paste that can be painted onto the plate.
